Can I hide my control panel out of the way?
A lot of people ask me when I’m talking to them about alarm systems, is where can they put their control panel? They have a concern, and rightly so, that control panels aren’t particularly good looking, pieces of equipment. They don’t necessarily want them on show in the hallway or in the lounge or wherever out where people can go.
So, can they hide the control panel, the cupboard under the stairs? And the simple answer to that is, 99 times out of 100, yes, with radio frequency systems like the vysonic ones that we install, you have to make sure that there’s still good radio, connectivity between the devices and the control panel.
So if your cupboard under the stairs is kind of out of the way a little bit, in terms of radio signal, then that might be a problem. But in the vast majority of houses, that’s really not a problem at all, so, yeah, most, alarm systems are controlled with, either a key fob or with an app on the phone.
And a lot of the older systems, have a keypad that you do put by the front door, and, that’s what sets and unsets the system. So the control panel can go wherever you like. It can go cupboard under the stairs. Potentially, it can go in the loft, although we don’t like that too much because, from an engineering point of view, it means we got to get right up into the loft to do anything with the control panel, so cupboard under the stairs is better from our point of view, but if that’s what you want to do with it, that’s what you can do.
