A feature of many alarm systems, which isn’t often talked about is that of the duress code.

If someone was to try and force their way into your house just after you’ve unlocked the door, obviously you don’t want that person to be spooked by the alarm system going off, but it will be really handy if you could raise the alarm somehow.

So many systems have a duress code, so instead of using your fob to unset the alarm or the normal pin number, you put your duress pin in and this then sets the alarm off in silent mode so that the sirens don’t go off at the home, but it still sends out alerts to whoever’s got the app on their phone and to monitoring stations and says that there’s a problem.

These people can then take action accordingly, like phoning the police.

So what’s a really sensible idea is to have a PIN number  that’s easy to remember. You might use a birthday or you might use a date that’s easy to remember like 1066 or 1944 or something along those lines.

Make sure it’s easy to remember and that it isn’t close to your standard PIN and that would make life an awful lot easier to remember when you need to use it, and hopefully you never do.
