Who has a garage or shed?

When was the last time you stopped to think about what you keep in there?

Do you have bikes, for instance? What about power tools? And gardening equipment? All of these are pretty expensive to replace.

And do you have a ladder? Ya know, the kind of thing that would help a burglar climb up to that window you left open while you just popped out for half-an-hour…..

So, here’s my recommendations.

If you have the budget, replace the up & over metal door with a motorised sectional door or a roller shutter (this will also have the added benefit of being able to park right up close to the door).

If not, don’t just rely on the cheapo lock in the centre. Either fit specialist security locks to the bottom corners of the door, or bolt a door blocker device to the ground in front of the door.

For a pedestrian door into the garage, treat these as you would your front door – so a lock to BS3621 if it’s wooden, or hookbolt locks & a 3* cylinder if it’s double glazed.

If your shed, or indeed garage, has a flimsy door that you can’t really beef up, then invest in ground anchors and hardened steel chain. Make sure those bikes and power tools are secured down when they’re not being used.
